$40K Donation from ASRC Federal Will Build New Playground at Judy Hoyer Family Learning Center

Business Partnerships Play Key Role in School Success

GREENBELT, MD, June 17, 2008 –The Prince George’s County Public Schools Judy Hoyer Family Learning Center in Adelphi was the proud recipient of a $40,000 donation from the ASRC Federal Holding Company (ASRC Federal). On June 9, Carl Werner, Chief Executive Office of ASRC Federal, and Debbie Crum, Customer Advocacy for Deltek, presented the check at the Queenstown Harbor Golf Course following the group’s first annual charity golf tournament.

“We are very appreciative of the generous donation from ASRC Federal, and are thrilled that they are planning to continue their partnership through employee volunteer work at the Judy Center,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. John E. Deasy. “Through their donation, the center will receive a new playground in one year that otherwise would have taken four years to construct, and their ongoing volunteer support will directly help families in their community.”

Business partnerships, such as the one with ASRC Federal, have become more critical to public schools than ever before. The PGCPS Business Partnerships Office has expanded its efforts to match potential business partners with schools’ needs. After conducting a needs assessment for each PGCPS school site, the office is actively seeking business partnerships to meet these needs through time, talent, and monetary resources.

“Our formal business partnerships develop reciprocal relationships between businesses and schools,” said Yvette Caldwell, Business Partnerships Specialist. “Businesses can satisfy their need to be ‘good corporate citizens,’ and students can gain access to potential career pathways, internships, and mentoring opportunities.”

New business partners work with their schools to create a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that outlines the details of the partnership, and PGCPS provides quarterly reports back to the partner to monitor the success of the program. PGCPS is currently looking to provide a business partner for each school. For more information, contact the Business Partnerships Office at 301-780-6738.

The Judy Hoyer Family Learning Center offers Special Education and Head Start classes, family literacy programs, parent education, nutrition education, and health care referrals and other services for children under five years old in the Adelphi and Cool Spring elementary school communities. The Center is an integrated site for local agencies and organizations to collaborate under one roof to serve the community and provide an integrated approach to promoting school readiness.
